The Taj Lake Palace Udaipur, India
Possibly the world's most romantic hotel
CLIENT: TAJ HOTELS
Many luxury hotels treat their guests like royalty. The Taj Lake Palace was originally built for royalty. Constructed between 1743 and 1746 on the island of Jag Niwas for the Maharana Jagat Singh II, it was intended as a summer palace for his court. Then, you would have arrived on the Maharana’s yacht; today, you travel by speed boat from a jetty on the edge of Lake Pichola.
Renowned for its breathtaking views of the surrounding hills and palaces, the hotel has 83 rooms and suites, all now restored to their mid-18th century glory with ornate and intricate arches, paintings and stained glass. Guests have included the king of Nepal, Queen Elizabeth II and Jackie Kennedy. James Bond sipped a martini at its stylish Amrit Sagar bar in Octopussy.
To complement this heady mix of the regal and romantic the hotel owners specified Perrin & Rowe for the bathrooms, choosing Country basin mixers, bath fillers and shower sets.
