When it comes to decorating our homes, colour plays a crucial role in setting the overall mood and atmosphere of a space.

While bold and bright hues may be tempting to incorporate into our interiors, neutral colours can provide a soothing and calming backdrop that allows other elements in the room to shine. Whether you're a minimalist at heart or simply looking for a way to create a more chilled and relaxing home environment, read on for some fabulous examples of beautiful spaces where cocooning warm neutrals have been used to wonderful effect. This delightful Somerset kitchen is a fabulous example. It features matt antique white British Standard Cupboards, a Shaws of Darwen Bowland fluted front fireclay sink and our Mayan taps in pewter. The design is further accentuated by textural finishes on the natural Sandstone flooring and rough-cut timber cladding on the ceiling. Both of these materials work effortlessly with the rustic table and dresser, which have a well-weathered patina.

Dulux set the tone with its Colour of the Year for 2023, Wild Wonder™. Dulux says this shade is “a positive, glowing tone, inspired by the natural world.” It’s a cross between a warm yellow-gold and a natural soft green, reflecting the hues of nature while being cosy and comforting at the same time. The great thing about this palette is that it works with pretty much everything. From neutral-coloured soft furnishings to wooden furniture, stripped-back surfaces to a touch of luxe, it’s a flexible and cohesive backdrop to existing decors as well as being perfect for freshening up and revitalising the home. It’s also the perfect setting for Perrin & Rowe brassware in brass and gold finishes.

In this 18th century French chateau, Anna and Philipp of @le_fleur_honfleur have restored a once-crumbling property into a stunning family home with our polished brass Mayan taps in the open-plan kitchen.

So how do you bring the warm neutral look into your own home? Here are 8 inspiring ideas to give your kitchen, utility room and bathroom a soothing and cosy vibe…

CHOOSE AN AGED BRASS FINISH FOR TAPS

An earthy colour palette for kitchen cabinets and accessories looks so warm and inviting when paired with natural timber worksurfaces and unlacquered brass taps. This Sebastian Cox kitchen by deVOL showcases the natural beauty of the wood and brass wonderfully, as the natural light flooding in allows the deVOL aged brass tap (made by Perrin & Rowe) to shine and stand proud within this homely Cornish setting.

COMPLEMENT WARMING COLOURS WITH COOL MARBLE

Whether it’s in the kitchen, utility room or bathroom, you can balance out the warmth of neutral walls or cabinetry with a cool and crisp marble or marble-effect surface. This Victorian home restoration in East London gave @our_home_in_the_stow the perfect opportunity to turn an original pantry into a utility area for muddy boots and bulky baking trays. Once again, the deVOL aged brass Mayan taps made by Perrin & Rowe finish the design off beautifully.

MAKE GOOD USE OF SPACE

Even the tiniest of spaces can be put to good use and given a warm and cosy feel with task downlighting and compact fixtures and fittings to make the most of every inch. This cloakroom for instance combines our space saving 24 carat gold plated wall mounted Mayan taps with a wall-hung basin and soap dispenser and a mirror to reflect light around the space, making it feel larger. Our gold electroplated finish is soft and subtle, perfect for both classic and contemporary kitchens, utilities and bathrooms.

THINK PINK

It may not be the first colour that comes to mind, but a soft blush pink can really enhance a warming colour scheme. This kitchen design by FloCoe Interiors features floor-to-ceiling cabinets painted in a subtle rose shade, a statement chandelier, marble worksurfaces and our Mayan taps in polished brass. Another of our ‘living’ finishes, polished brass is raw and unlacquered as well as shiny and hand polished.  It also gets even better with age, as it reacts with the kitchen or bathroom environment to develop its own patina.

EMBRACE THE NATURAL BEAUTY OF WOOD

If you want to keep walls white for a fresh, clean look, use the natural grain of wood to create a warm and welcoming feel. This pale oak design by Ed Keyser blends traditional craftsmanship with contemporary lines. Our industrial-style Armstrong mixer in aged brass provides further warmth and interest.

THINK VINTAGE, RECYCLED AND UPCYCLED

Warming neutrals work beautifully with old or upcycled furniture and accessories. This deVOL design uses handles and brackets that are aged at their mill while the porcelain pendant light is also handcrafted by deVOL at their ceramic studio. The Mayan taps are crafted by us and finished in an exclusive aged brass finish for deVOL while the vintage pots and stool are also from deVOL.

PERSONALISE THE SPACE

Warming neutrals also create the perfect backdrop for a fun, personalised design. This bathroom by Our Suburban Reno Story blends a bespoke vanity unit painted in Farrow & Ball London Stone with our Mayan taps in pewter and a striking faux animal print stool.

MAKE A STATEMENT WALL

For an instant statement without overpowering the room, turn the sink and tap into a focal point with a statement tiled, papered or painted wall behind.  In Laura Butler-Madden’s Menorca kitchen, pink and white Moroccan-style star tiles look stunning with our 24‑carat gold plated Phoenician mixer & rinse.
